The Estero Island Nourishment Project has made landfall onto the beach at 500 Estero Blvd!

The Estero Island Nourishment Project has made landfall onto the beach at 500 Estero Blvd, one-half mile south of Bowditch Park. The dredge pipeline extends from the offshore burrow area in the Gulf, approximately is 1.5 miles offshore from Matanzas Pass, between Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel. The contractor is currently constructing the pipeline North towards Bowditch Park. Once the pipeline is fused, the contractor will begin pumping the sand slurry from the Gulf onto the beach at 100 Estero Blvd, and construct the engineer designed beach from North to South.

Construction areas on the beach will be closed to the public. The Town is working with Lee County Parks & Recreation and Resorts to minimize interruptions from the Project. Boaters and Beachgoers are requested to avoid the areas of construction and use extreme caution when in the area. Sand access ramps will be constructed over the pipeline to maintain public access to the beach throughout the project.

The Estero Island Nourishment and Hurricane Recovery Project will place some 950,000 cubic yards of sand from the Gulf to nourish approximately 6.5 miles of critically eroded shoreline along Forth Myers Beach. The project is expected to last 6 months. For more information, go to the Town's website www.fmbgov.com/beach.
