Macquarie University climbs in world rankings

Macquarie University has risen to 178 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, retaining its position within the top 10 universities in Australia.

The ranking evaluates research-intensive universities across their core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

More than 2000 institutions in 115 countries were measured in this year's rankings, with Macquarie University being one of only four Australian universities to improve its position.

The University's ranking increase was driven by improved scores for research quality, as well as strong results for technology transfer and research collaboration with industry.

Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton said the University's continued positive trajectory in the Times Higher Education rankings was reflective of its steadfast commitment to providing education and research of the highest quality.

"As a university, we serve to transform and improve lives through innovative education, research and healthcare," the Vice-Chancellor said. "This result is testament to the dedication and resolve of our university community in achieving this mission."

"It is particularly pleasing to see Macquarie University's purposeful collaboration with industry - including our valued partners in the Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District - reflected in this year's results."

In June this year, Times Higher Education ranked Macquarie University 24th in the world for impact against the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
