Mid-Autumn Festival Returns to the Great Park September 13

The City of Irvine, in partnership with the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, will host its fourth annual Mid-Autumn Festival at the Great Park Friday, September 13, from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture. Similar holidays are celebrated in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and other countries in East and Southeast Asia. For many, it is the second-most important holiday after the Lunar New Year and dates back over 3,000 years, when the Emperor of China worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests.

This year's event will feature live performances, cultural exhibits, delicious entrees and treats from food trucks, and engaging children's activities. Guests can immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Asian culture while enjoying a festive atmosphere. The Mid-Autumn Festival, a centuries-old tradition celebrated throughout Asia, symbolizes unity, harmony, and prosperity.

Admission is free and open to all ages.

The City of Irvine is committed to honoring traditional and culturally relevant events that highlight the City's diverse and multicultural community. Each month the City highlights cultural celebrations and religious holidays through its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion spotlight.
