Officers Recovered a Firearm Following a Person with a Gun Call

At about 4:15 PM, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) arrested Mario Porrata, 42, of Quincy, on firearm charges.

Officers responded to the area of 662 Tremont Street for a report of a person with a gun. Boston Police Operations provided officers with a description of the involved suspect and that a handle of a firearm was displayed.

Officers began to canvass the area and located the suspect walking on West Newton Street towards Shawmut Avenue. Officers were able to stop the suspect, and conducted a pat frisk. Officers immediately observed a firearm in the suspect's waistband, and quickly placed him into handcuffs. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith and Wesson 22 Long Rifle Model 63 with one spent shell casing and five live rounds of ammunition.

Porrata was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
