Today, the 6th Meeting of the Subcommittee on Political Affairs and the 5th Meeting of the Subcommittee on Economic and Financial Affairs between Argentina and Peru were held in Buenos Aires. On behalf of Argentina, the meetings were presided over by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Leopoldo Sahores, and the Secretary for International Economic Relations, Ambassador Marcelo Cima, respectively. The Peruvian delegation was headed by Peru's Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Peter Camino Cannock.

At this event, Foreign Minister Camino was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of San Martín by Ambassador Sahores, for his work as Peru's Ambassador to Argentina from 2018 to 2023.

Then, the delegations discussed the current status of the bilateral relationship, as well as the prospects for the main topics on the agenda, including technical, scientific and technological cooperation; disaster risk management; cooperation on Antarctic and oceanic matters; defence and security issues and consular cooperation, among others.

The officials also discussed their interest in boosting the bilateral economic agenda, as well as in modernizing and deepening existing agreements and instruments on trade in goods and services and investments.

The participants welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 13 May by the civil aviation authorities of both countries and undertook to continue working together on issues of mutual interest, such as their participation in trade missions and international fairs. In addition, both delegations highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation and productive linkage.

Furthermore, they discussed issues on the regional and global agendas and agreed on the importance of facilitating the exchange of good practices, as well as reactivating and streamlining the regional integration mechanisms of which Argentina and Peru are part.

Finally, the Argentine Republic thanked the traditional and historical support of the Peruvian Government for Argentina's position in the sovereignty dispute with the United Kingdom over the Malvinas Islands.
