Trenton, NJ - The Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development nominations deadline for its 2024 Governor's Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards (GEHEDA) is Friday, July 5. The 2024 GEHEDA honors outstanding achievements in New Jersey's housing and development sectors. They celebrate individuals, organizations, and projects that exemplify the missions of the Governor's Housing Conference (GHC) Coordinating Agencies including the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, New Jersey Economic Development Authority, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Financing Agency, and New Jersey Redevelopment Authority.

The GEHEDA pay tribute to those whose contributions excelled the advancement of affordable and accessible housing opportunities for many of New Jersey's residents. By recognizing exemplary projects and initiatives, the awards aim to inspire and encourage further efforts to enhance the overall quality of life for all New Jerseyans.

The Governor's Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards also seek to recognize projects and individuals who make significant contributions to job creation and retention, as well as those who invest in the future of the state's economy. By highlighting innovative economic development efforts, the awards foster the development of sustainable businesses and strategies that drive growth and prosperity.

The awards encompass various categories designed to capture different aspects of housing and economic development. They include:

  1. Leading Neighborhood Revitalization Partnership Award: Recognizing collaborative efforts that effectively revitalize and transform neighborhoods, bringing about positive change and revitalization.
  2. Adaptive Reuse Transformation Award: Honoring projects that creatively repurpose existing structures, preserving historical and architectural significance, while contributing to economic growth and community revitalization.
  3. Innovative Economic Development Award: Acknowledging groundbreaking initiatives that promote economic prosperity, job creation, and sustainable development.
  4. Excellence in Housing Development Award: Recognizing exceptional projects that provide high-quality, affordable housing options to meet the diverse needs of residents.
  5. Ronald L. Rice Impact Award: Paying tribute to non-profits, individuals, or organizations that have made significant impacts on housing, economic development, or community improvement. Nominations for this award will come from elected officials or persons in leadership positions in state, county, or municipal government.
  6. Small Business of Distinction Award: Acknowledging the achievements of small businesses that have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and a positive impact on their communities, showcasing their vital role in driving economic growth and local development.

The 2024 GEHEDA will be presented at the Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development, which will take place on September 17-18 at Harrah's Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
