ANDERSON COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOR TAX EVASION, ACCUSED OF UNDER-REPORTING SALES BY $3.4 MILLION

SCDOR agents arrested an Anderson County man on Tuesday and charged him with six counts of tax evasion.

Yagneshkumar Pravin Patel, 45, of Piedmont, was the operator of Yadhi Groups, LLC and Yadhi Spirits, LLC, in Anderson County. According to arrest warrants, Patel reported taxable sales of more than $770,000 between 2016 and July 2021. However, an investigation found his actual taxable sales to be more than $4.2 million.

As the result, Patel evaded at least $229,000 in Sales Tax, the warrants allege.

If convicted, Patel faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000, plus the cost of prosecution, for each count. He is being held in the Anderson County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

The SCDOR is committed to the fair administration of tax laws. By taking enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers, the Department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply.
