Governor Parson Proclaims November Adoption Awareness Month

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Governor Mike Parson has proclaimed November 2024 as Adoption Awareness Month in Missouri, aiming to inspire all residents to learn about the need for adoptive families and to support parents who adopt in their communities.

"With the holiday season approaching, residents of Missouri are preparing to create cherished moments with family and friends. This time of year also highlights the significance of supporting the children in our state who lack a stable home or loving family," Governor Parson said. "In honor of Adoption Awareness Month this November, we encourage everyone to express their support for adoptive families. Together, let's open our hearts, homes, and lives to the children who long for a family."

Currently, nearly 1,200 children and youth are waiting and hoping to find permanent homes with loving families. The Missouri Adoption Heart Gallery showcases profiles of some of these remarkable children and youth.

"We deeply appreciate all the adoptive families who create a loving and supportive environment for children to grow and flourish," said Robert Knodell, DSS Director. "Every child deserves to experience safety and love, so I urge all Missourians to think about adoption as a meaningful step in their family's journey."

You could become an adoptive parent if you:

• Are at least 21 years old
• Complete a child abuse/neglect check and a criminal record check, including fingerprints
• Are in good physical and mental health
• Have a stable income
• Are willing to participate in a free training and assessment process
• Are ready to share your perspectives and concerns as part of a professional team
