After a significant infrastructure rehabilitation project that began on Sept. 3, 2024, the Santa Rosa Downtown Transit Mall is set to reopen on Sunday, November 17. Located on Second Street between B Street and Santa Rosa Avenue, the Transit Mall now features improved pavement and pedestrian upgrades, enhancing service for Santa Rosa CityBus, Sonoma County Transit, Golden Gate Transit, and Mendocino Transit Authority.
The rehabilitation project addressed pedestrian safety and operational issues by replacing the failing pavement with a new ten-inch-thick concrete roadbed and upgrading curb ramps, curbs, gutters, and striping to improve safety and deter non-transit vehicles from entering the Transit Mall. To minimize daytime traffic disruptions in the downtown area caused by concrete trucks entering and exiting the site, the concrete roadbed was placed during overnight operations. Completion of this critical infrastructure project ensures long-term functionality for this key transit hub in the North Bay, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
