Driver Killed In Multi Vehicle Crash on I 24 West Identified, Investigation Ongoing

The driver killed in this morning's 7:50 a.m. multi-vehicle crash on I-24 West near Old Hickory Boulevard has been identified as Daniel Roberts, 39, of Murfreesboro.

The preliminary investigation indicates three of the vehicles involved were stopped in heavy traffic when a Dodge Ram pickup truck did not stop and struck the rear of a Toyota Solara and traveled overtop of it. The Solara, with the Ram on top of it, crashed into the back of a Kia Sorento then a Honda Insight.

Roberts, the driver of the Solara, died at the scene.

The driver and three passengers of the Sorento were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the Ram refused medical treatment at the scene. He did not show signs of impairment, but indicated he may have been distracted.

A decision on charges is pending the outcome of the continuing investigation.
