Mexico unveils lottery ticket commemorating the establishment of diplomatic relations with Haiti
  • In 1929, Mexico and Haiti established diplomatic relations based on cooperation, humanitarian aid and sociocultural exchange.
  • The lottery ticket highlights the friendship between the two nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Lottery unveiled the lottery ticket for drawing no. 3935, which commemorates 95 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Haiti based on cooperation, humanitarian aid and sociocultural exchange.

The unveiling of the ticket was led by the Foreign Ministry's Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean, Imanol Belausteguigoitia Reyes; Darline Florestal, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Haiti in Mexico; and National Lottery Director General Marco Antonio Mena Rodríguez.

In his remarks, Director General Belausteguigoitia said that the first contact between Mexico and Haiti dates back to 1816, when General Francisco Javier Mina visited Haiti to discuss Mexico's independence.

Currently, the bilateral agenda covers a wide range of issues such as cooperation, trade, consular protection and assistance, security, multilateral and regional coordination and political dialogue, among others.

National Lottery Director Marco Antonio Mena said that lottery tickets commemorate events that are important to Mexico's history. The design of this one highlights the friendship between the two nations and is the work of a Haitian-Mexican family.

The drawing will be next Tuesday, July 9, with a jackpot of 21 million pesos in three series and total winnings of 66 million pesos. Director Mena invited the public to buy the tickets at the more than 11,000 outlets throughout the country or from street vendors, "so that the participants' luck helps the millions of people who benefit from the social programs to which the National Lottery contributes."

The 3,600,000 commemorative tickets are also available at alegrialoteria.com. The cost of each ticket is 30 pesos, and the cost of an entire series is 600 pesos. The drawing will be broadcast live on the Sorteos Tradicionales de la Loteria Nacional YouTube channel.

The unveiling of the lottery ticket commemorates a long tradition of cooperation and friendship between Mexico and Haiti.
