Explore and interact with flood-fighting equipment at Oct. 19’s Highwater Jamboree

The City of Sacramento is inviting people to explore and interact with flood-fighting equipment during its annual Highwater Jamboree Oct. 19 at North Natomas Regional Park (2501 New Market Drive).

The family-friendly event will feature equipment that helps local, state and federal agencies prepare for and respond to floods, including helicopters, automatic sandbagging machines and "The Claw," a tractor-like vehicle that collects leaves and debris.

"We're incredibly proud to be hosting the Highwater Jamboree once again," said Emily Alexander, an emergency management coordinator for the City. "This event continues to expand, bringing together more departments, regional nonprofits, and area partners to highlight their flood-fighting expertise."

It will also include informational booths that can help teach attendees how to prepare for flood, including purchasing insurance, learning evacuation routes and signing up for emergency alerts.

The Highwater Jamboree is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is expected to draw hundreds of people.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP on the Facebook event page. A response is not required but helps City staff prepare for the event, which "will be a powerful showcase of how our community comes together to stay safe and prepared for flood season," Alexander said.
