The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is in solidarity with grassroots election protection organizers that are rising up against voter intimidation and suppression across the country. Already, ballot boxes have been surveilled by right-wing militia groups and even set on fire, discredited bomb threats have caused disruptions in several polling locations, and there are reports of incidents of individualized threats of violence, especially in key swing states. Further, the National Guard has been deployed in over a dozen states.

The NLG's organizing and protest defense work is not isolated to bourgeois electoral politics, but we recognize the particular vulnerabilities our communities face with the undeniably heightened levels of tension and violence in this electoral cycle. The NLG has seen the rights of protesters eroded, the violent repression of anti-genocide activists, and the use of the "the law" to further criminalize the right to dissent. As jailhouse lawyers, legal workers, law students, and movement attorneys, we will continue to defend those repressed by the state and right-wing forces as we have been doing for the past 86 years.

Regardless of today's election results, movements have been, and will continue to, rise up against the atrocities perpetrated upon oppressed peoples around the world by both wings of the imperialist hawk. The significance of the figurehead at the helm of the beast pales in comparison to the resilience of the people advocating for their right to be free and the NLG will be there on election day and all days in between. The ultimate question is: will you?
