The Long Beach Police Department is investigating the death of a male adult in the 5300 block of Cerritos Avenue on Nov. 15, 2024.
At approximately 5:58 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 5300 block of Cerritos Avenue following reports of a vehicle colliding with a residential fence. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle in the backyard of a residence that had been involved in a single-vehicle collision. Officers contacted a male adult driver inside the vehicle, ordered him to exit, and handcuffed him as part of the investigation.
Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel was on scene and rendered medical aid. LBFD personnel transported the male to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The identification of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Since the decedent was handcuffed, this is being classified as an in-custody death. No force was used by officers. As with all in-custody death investigations, Homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner-Coroner has been notified and will conduct an independent investigation.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office was notified of the incident and responded.
