On October 5th, 2024 just before 9pm SPD responded to the area of 5600 East Upriver Drive on a report of a missing person. Officers were advised a female who suffers from night blindness was last seen in a wooded area about an hour prior. Officers were also advised that the missing female was roughly a mile and a half away from their location.

Due to the difficult terrain, members of the SPD Air Support Unit (ASU) responded to assist. With the use of a Drone, ASU quickly located the missing female. The video footage revealed that she was standing still near a tree. Officers utilized the GPS information obtained from the Drone to assist them as they navigated the dark trails.
