Latika Johnson Named Director of Multicultural Center

JONESBORO - Dr. Latika Johnson is announced as the new director of the Arkansas State University Multicultural Center by Dr. Carlitta Moore, vice chancellor for access and institutional engagement.

"Johnson's enthusiasm for the position and her vision for reimagining the Multicultural Center were both compelling and well-received. I look forward to seeing her lead the center and reinforce its openness, ensuring everyone at A-State can access the resources they need to succeed," said Carlitta Moore, vice chancellor for access and institutional engagement.

Johnson comes to A-State with nearly a decade of experience working in multicultural initiatives, student affairs and leadership development.

"What excites me most about this position is the opportunity to serve and lead in a space where students can connect, grow and feel supported throughout their university experience," Johnson said.

In her most recent role, she served as administrative coordinator for off-campus student services at the University of Missouri and as a coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Oklahoma State University.

"I have always been passionate about promoting cross-cultural understanding, building community, and ensuring students from all backgrounds have the resources and spaces they need to succeed," Johnson said.

"She demonstrated a deep understanding of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity, which she seamlessly integrates into her leadership approach," Moore added. "She proposed practical ways to engage stakeholders in meaningful dialogue, bridging gaps, and ensuring all voices are heard and valued."

Johnson has also led workshops at regional conferences, and has contributed to various campus committees focused on student success, social justice, and race.

"Whether it is through educational workshops, mentorship opportunities, or community outreach, I am committed to creating spaces where students can thrive and feel a strong sense of belonging. My goal is to ensure the work we do in the Multicultural Center complements and strengthens the broader mission of the university to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all students," she said.

Johnson holds a doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis with an emphasis on higher education and a concentration in leadership and administration from the University of Missouri.

She earned a master's degree in college student personnel administration from the University of Central Arkansas and a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies, with emphases in leadership, health, and disaster preparedness and emergency management from A-State.
