Manchin Announces $2.6 Million For Substance Use Disorder Prevention, Family Services

Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $2,685,987 from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) for substance use disorder treatment and prevention for West Virginians and their families. The funding will specifically support The Martinsburg Initiative, Lauren's Wish Addiction Triage Center, Raleigh County Prevention Coalition, Lily's Place, Jacobs Ladder, and Marshall University. These federal awards are Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests Senator Manchin secured on behalf of West Virginia through the Fiscal Year 2024 funding bill.

"These West Virginian institutions are on the front lines combatting the drug epidemic every day and will make good use of this funding," said Senator Manchin. "This investment of more than $2.6 million will support innovative substance use disorder treatment and prevention efforts, help protect our children, and promote health and wellness across the Mountain State. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for resources that enhance the health and well-being of all West Virginians and fight the drug epidemic."

The Senate Appropriations Committee allows members of Congress to submit CDS requests, which provides an opportunity for state and local governments, non-profits, and other public entities to receive targeted funding for projects that bolster their communities and directly support West Virginians. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Manchin works to ensure taxpayer dollars are allocated to priorities that benefit all West Virginians, boost economic growth and support the needs of communities across the Mountain State while remaining fiscally responsible.
