We have now entered into Phase 3b of the War Memorial and Legislative Plaza Closure Plan, which includes the closure of the Motlow Tunnel on December 30, 2024.
Several changes will occur around the State Capitol this month as part of this planned construction work.
Key Change - New Capitol Access Route
Following the holiday season, the primary access point to the Capitol will shift to a new temporary stairway being constructed at the corner of MLK Boulevard and Eakin-Weakly. This new access point will replace the currently used Motlow Tunnel entrance and the exterior stairs along each side. (This location is marked on the attached map with a green arrow.)
Important Dates and Changes
· December 2: Construction begins on the temporary stairs near the Sam Davis statue
· December 16: Closure of the parking lane on the west side of 6th Avenue
· December 30: Installation of fencing around Motlow Tunnel (following the removal of the Christmas tree)
· December 30: Closure of the north (westbound) lane of MLK Boulevard adjacent to Motlow Tunnel
(Closures are marked on the attached map in red.)
What You Need to Do
Please begin familiarizing yourself with the location of the new temporary stairs at the corner of MLK Boulevard and Eakin-Weakly. Once Motlow Tunnel closes on December 30, 2024, this will become your primary access route to the Capitol when walking from the Tennessee Tower. The exterior routes to the Capitol from the east and north will remain open.
Questions or Concerns
If you have any questions about these changes or need additional information, please contact Tenant Services in DGS's STREAM division.
We appreciate your patience throughout this construction project.
