*Update* State Police Detectives Continue Investigation of Sulphur Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

Louisiana State Police Detectives are continuing an investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred in Sulphur on July 11, 2024. The incident claimed the life of 37-year-old Mark Hayden Jr. of Sulphur.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Sulphur Police Department officers were investigating an earlier domestic incident involving Hayden. Hayden fled the scene of the domestic incident prior to the arrival of officers, but was later located. During the encounter, Hayden sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Forensics Unit assisted in processing the scene.

This investigation remains active, and further information will be released when it becomes available.

Louisiana State Police Detectives Investigating Sulphur Police Department

Officer-Involved Shooting

Sulphur - On July 11, 2024, shortly after 6:00 p.m., Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division were requested by the Sulphur Police Department to investigate a officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of South Kent Street. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information.

One subject was pronounced deceased on the scene. No officers were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation; further information will be released when it becomes available.
