Every year, the Al Smith Dinner is held to raise money for Catholic charities that help children in New York City. It's a longstanding tradition that in election years, the Presidential candidates both attend and give humorous speeches. But not this year. Surprise: Kamala Harris has canceled. She claims she's busy (doing WHAT? Oh, a "campaign event.")
Translation: There will be a lot of reporters there and they might ask her questions. Instead, she'll be off someplace where she can safely dispense her word salads off a teleprompter.
It's not yet confirmed whether Trump will appear, but as recently as last week, it was announced that both Trump and Harris would participate. The fact that the emcee will be comic Jim Gaffigan, who has made no secret of his disdain for Trump, didn't seem to scare Trump away.
