Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) and the Arbor Day Foundation invite residents to a One Book One Lincoln event to celebrate the top three finalist, "North Woods" Saturday, August 10. The event will be at from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Gere Branch Library, 2400 S. 56th St.

"One Book One Lincoln and the Arbor Day Foundation are excited to be collaborating on a program that will provide fun, entertainment, and knowledge for all ages by celebrating the Top Three Finalist, "North Woods" by Daniel Mason, which highlights the way trees act as witnesses to human history," said Jennifer Jackson, Librarian Facilitator for One Book One Lincoln.

The program will include:

  • Tree planting for every attendee: The Arbor Day Foundation will plant a tree in a U.S. forest of need for each person who attends the event.
  • Free succulents: The first 100 attendees will receive a free succulent, courtesy of the Arbor Day Foundation.
  • Kona Ice treats: The first 100 customers will enjoy a complimentary Kona Ice, with additional purchases available from the onsite truck.
  • Expert advice: A certified arborist will be present to answer questions about tree care and tree planting.
  • Kid zone: Coloring pages and crayons will be available for children.
  • Scavenger hunt prize: The winner of the LCL summer tree identification scavenger hunt will win a night's stay at Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, located at the Foundation's Arbor Day Farm property.
