On August 21, 2024, Kahlilullah Razaq was convicted by a jury of annoying or molesting a child and communicating with a minor with intent to commit a felony sex act. The jury also found true allegations that Razaq has prior strike convictions for child molestation and felony witness tampering.
On May 9, 2024, Razaq approached the 12-year-old victim who was alone at a bus stop and began a conversation with her. Razaq asked the victim how old she was, and she responded that she was 14. Razaq then asked if the victim wanted to have sex with him. The victim said no and took a picture of Razaq. Razaq followed the victim onto the bus and stared at her. When the victim got off the bus, she called 911 believing Razaq was following her. Police were able to use the photo the victim took of Razaq to identify him. Razaq was on parole following a prior child molest conviction and was on active GPS ankle monitor. Police used the GPS data to locate Razaq, who was wearing the same clothes as in the victim's picture and had the same tattoos. GPS records also showed he was on the bus at the same time as the victim.
Razaq faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison. Sentencing is set for September 18, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 24 before the Honorable Kenneth Brody.
