Village of Niles to Celebrate 125th Anniversary on August 17

Niles Mayor George D. Alpogianis and the Niles Board of Trustees are inviting the public to attend a special community celebration in honor of the Village's 125th anniversary. The event will be held on Saturday, August 17 starting at 4 p.m. at Golf Mill Park, 9101 Greenwood Avenue, Niles, IL.

"The Village of Niles has a world-class, rich history and throughout its 125 years has continued to be a family-oriented community with strong, safe neighborhoods, top-ranked schools, and thriving businesses," Alpogianis said. "This is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and prepare ourselves for its future."

The 125th Anniversary celebration is at no cost to all and offers activities for kids, teens, and adults alike. Activities for all ages include a mobile escape room, photo booth, gaming truck, DJ Jules, bounce house, bubble artist, reptile show, face painting, pony rides, cotton candy, popcorn, and dunk tank. Food trucks, beer tent, and merchandise for purchase is also available. Live music featuring the band Feel Good Music starts at 6 p.m. followed by the drone and fireworks show.

Doors open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 at Golf Mill Park, 9101 Greenwood Avenue in Niles. Free parking is available at Golf Mill Shopping Center. Wayne Messmer, one of Chicago's most recognized and loved entertainers, will sign the National Anthem at 5:30 pm.

The Village of Niles has always been a special place to live, work, and play. Niles was recognized as the All-America City in 1965, and in the 1980s was one of only four Illinois towns honored in the "Safe Places for the 80's" book. In 2006, Niles was named "Best Place to Raise Kids" by Bloomberg Magazine, and "Top Town" by Chicago Parent magazine in 2021. The future remains bright for Niles and its citizens, with the coming redevelopment of Golf Mill Town Center, which will further extend Niles as a destination of shopping centers, restaurants, and family-owned businesses. Maintaining its position as one of the highest sales-tax generating towns in Illinois allows Niles to continue offering its residents top-notch services and amenities as one of the lowest property tax communities in Northern Illinois.
