RICHMOND, VA - Today, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced the launch of the Virginia Department of Education's Road to Readiness School Performance and Support Framework Resource Hub. This comprehensive online support hub provides parents, students, educators, and communities with transparent access to preliminary data on school performance and information on the support mechanisms available to enhance student and school success.
As part of today's launch, Governor Youngkin announced that his 2025 Budget proposal will include at least an additional $50 million to expand the support available for getting Virginia's public schools most in need back on track and ensure Virginia students are prepared to thrive, as well as additional operating funds for the Office of School Quality.
"This new Road to Readiness embodies our commitment to high expectations, transparency, and prioritizing resources to those students and schools most in need," said Governor Glenn Youngkin. "Our School Performance Framework and this new resource hub reaffirm our commitment to empowering our teachers, partnering with our parents, strengthening our schools and most importantly, preparing every student for success."
"The Road to Readiness provides transparent, data-driven insights into school performance and delivers targeted resources to those public schools most in need," said Secretary of Education Aimee Guidera. "By adopting rigorous standards and investing over $5 billion in public education, we've laid a strong foundation. Now, we must use the data from this Framework as a tool to inform, empower, and improve. When teachers, families and students have actionable information along with proven roadmaps and resources to support their improvement efforts, achievement increases."
"Today marks a significant milestone for the State Board of Education, culminating over two years of dedicated effort to develop the School Performance and Support Framework," said President of the Virginia Board of Education Grace Creasey. "This Framework, shaped by extensive public engagement and best practices, provides a comprehensive understanding of how each public school serves every student. It enables us to offer targeted support-through training, assistance, coaching, and financial resources-to schools and divisions that need it most, ensuring every student is on track for success."
"We are proud to offer an unprecedented level of support to families and educators to help make sure every Virginia child has the opportunity to succeed in the new Framework," said Superintendent of Public Instruction Lisa Coons. "We are conducting trainings, sharing best practices, and publishing resources and roadmaps to help educators and parents navigate their students to success through this process."
The new School Performance and Support Framework Resource Hub was created by the Virginia Department of Education to provide greater information on the Framework and its free resources available to families and educators. Containing components designed to assist families in supporting their child and their school, the Hub provides supports for families focused on helping parents guide their children's academic growth and performance. The Hub is also designed to provide educators and school leaders with the necessary information, resources, and supports to provide direct and focused assistance for schools based on student achievement data.
The Resource Hub is a key implementation tool for the School Performance and Support Framework, adopted by the Virginia Board of Education in August. By providing clear, concrete reporting on school performance to show students' mastery of grade-level expectations, expected growth, and readiness for the next phase of school, the Framework and Resource Hub increase transparency and accessibility of information for Virginia schools and the families they serve. This honesty fosters trust and enables all stakeholders to understand and engage with the educational process effectively.
The Virginia's School Performance and Support Framework, implemented at the start of the 2024-2025 school year, empowers parents, provides a transparent assessment of how well every school is serving every student, encourages school communities to work together to implement changes that will improve student and school performance, and focuses targeted supports on the students and school in most need.
The 2024-2025 school year is the first year of data collection for the Framework. Formal reports of the 2024-2025 school year results will be published in Fall of 2025. The data presented on the Resource Hub will not be used to determine school ratings. This data is available for analysis purposes so that parents, schools, and communities can better understand the areas of focus needed for improvement in the current school year.
