Man arrested for homicide on Santa Clara Street; father also taken into custody for being an accessory after the fact

HAYWARD, Calif., On September 4, 2024,detectives arrested Shawn Moayer, a 34-year-old Haywardresident, for thehomicide that took place on August 26, 2024.

On August 26, 2024, at approximately 3:25 p.m., officers responded to the report of ashooting near the 22000 block of Santa Clara Street.

Officers arrived on scene and located the victimsuffering from gunshotwounds.Medical personnel responded and pronounced the man deceased at the scene. The victimwas later identified as 36-year-old Haywardresident, Matthew Beck.

Detectives immediatelybegan their investigation and identified Shawn Moayeras the man believed to be responsible forthe homicide. OnSeptember 4, 2024, Moayer was locatedand arrested at a residence near the 32000 block of Endeavour Way in Union City and is currently in custody at the Santa Rita County Jail awaiting arraignment.

During the course ofthe investigation, detectives developed probable cause to believe that Moayer'sadoptive father, 59-year-oldUnion City resident, Houman Moayer, knowingly aided, concealedand harbored Moayerto prevent him from being taken into custody bylaw enforcement. Houman was also arrestedon September 4, 2024,near the 32000 block of Endeavour Way in Union Cityand iscurrently in custody at the Santa Rita County Jail for being an accessory after the fact.

Chief Bryan Matthews addressed the arrests, stating, "The unwavering commitment of our detectives, coupled with the seamless collaboration across the department, was key to identifying and apprehendingShawn Moayer. Their methodical approach - gathering and processing evidence, conducting interviews, and following leads - ensured that Moayerwas locatedand safely taken into custody.

Our thoughts remainwith the family and lovedones of Mr. Beck as they continue to grieve. We hope thesearrestsmark a meaningful step in their journey toward healing and justice for Mr. Beck and his family."
