PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Oct. 3, 2024) - Prairie View A&M University has achieved record-breaking enrollment for the fall 2024 semester, reaching 9,893 students, surpassing the previous high of 9,516 set in 2018.

University officials largely credit this significant increase to the new PV Cares initiative, which provides crucial support to undergraduate and graduate students.

"We are excited to see that students from across the country continue to make PVAMU their institution of choice," said Dr. Sarina Willis, PVAMU Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success. "This record enrollment was a collaborative effort that truly took everyone on campus to make possible. As we begin our Journey to Eminence 2035, and to help solidify our commitment to excellence and strategically enhance our commitment to student success, we onboarded over 40 staff members to help create our PV Care Teams. They are making a tremendous difference."

PV Cares offers a comprehensive range of services for students, including professional academic advising, career coaching, and financial counseling for undergraduates and financial counseling for graduate students. These services aim to improve student outcomes by offering personalized guidance tailored to individual academic and career goals.

"Every student at PVAMU has been assigned a Care Team that supports them throughout their matriculation at PVAMU," said Dr. Willis. "This team of new people, combined with the dedicated staff that have previously supported our students, gave 110% toward contacting and assisting our students as they enrolled for fall 2024."

Professional academic advisors focus on helping students succeed by providing informed guidance, connecting them with University resources, and offering targeted support. Career coaches assist students with career exploration, resume building, and job search strategies while also offering soft-skills training for future employment. Financial counselors work with students on budgeting and financial literacy, ensuring they can make informed financial decisions during their time at Prairie View A&M and beyond.

The University's continued commitment to student success, as demonstrated by the PV Cares initiative, has played a pivotal role in attracting and retaining students, contributing to this historic enrollment milestone.

"As the VP of Enrollment Management and Student Success, I am excited to have the opportunity to lead our efforts as we grow the enrollment at PVAMU and to contribute to record-size enrollment," said Dr. Willis. "This was a collaboration of faculty, staff and administrators from across the University, and the support and investment that the executive leadership provided is unmatched and the catalyst that put us in the position to serve each student and family who selected PVAMU to be their home away from home."
