On November 18, 2024, at approximately 9:27 a.m., Troopers from the Wurtsboro barracks responded to Gumaer Falls Rd in Wurtsboro, NY, for a report of a possible gas leak with three affected victims.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were exposed to carbon monoxide and had varying degrees of exposure. The victims identified as Baoli Xu, age 55, Haijun Wang age 63 both from Wurtsboro, NY and 66-year-old male of Flushing NY. The 66-year-old victim whose name is being withheld pending family notification succumbed to the exposure and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Xu and Wang were located within the building unconscious and were removed. Troopers and Wurtsboro EMS performed lifesaving efforts on both victims. Xu was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center and Wang was transported to Ellenville Hospital. Both victims are currently in stable condition. Wurtsboro Fire Department disconnected fuel sources and were able to clear the building and prevent further exposure.
The incident is still under investigation.
