The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and Kentucky American Water, announced today that the Urban League of Lexington - Fayette County has received a $20,000 commitment as part of a larger Foundation Corporate Strategic grant. Funding will enhance workforce development initiatives that help close the equality gap for African Americans and other historically underserved groups throughout the Lexington footprint.
"Education and job skills are at the heart of economic equality. Here, at the Urban League, we partner with families to provide the scaffolding necessary for achieving their goals. This contribution from the American Water Charitable Foundation will allow us to continue building and offering the framework critical to setting and achieving dreams," said P.G. Peeples, Sr., president/CEO, Urban League of Lexington - Fayette County.
Funding will support job skills and training opportunities for high school students and adults. In partnership with the Kentucky Workforce Innovation Board, the program will utilize the Ready for Industry training curriculum to build workforce skills, expose students to high-demand, high-wage job skills, and provide introductory certifications for students completing the 15-20 hour training. Additionally, the funds will support senior Lexingtonians in obtaining computer skills for extended work opportunities.
"Kentucky American Water is proud to collaborate with the American Water Charitable Foundation to support the Urban League of Lexington - Fayette County," said Kathryn Nash, president, Kentucky American Water. "Supporting the Urban League is not just an investment in the present; it's a commitment to building a future where equity and opportunity thrive in our community. Together, we can create pathways to success for generations to come."
