Langdon, Smith advance to Nov. 5 ballot

NORTH PORT, FL - Barbara Langdon and Josh Smith have advanced to the general election for the District 2 City Commission seat, according to unofficialresultsfrom the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.

Langdon and Smith were the top two vote-getters in Tuesday's primary and will be on the ballot in the Nov. 5 general election.

Langdon, the incumbent, received 4,816 votes, or 39.24 percent. Smith received 3,998 votes, or 32.57 percent. Cheryl Cook received 3,460 votes, or 28.19 percent.

The Nov. 5 ballot will also include candidates for commission seats in District 1 (incumbent Alice White and Demetrius Petrow) and District 3 (Andrew Sias and David Duvall). District 3 Commissioner Debbie McDowell is precluded by term limits from re-election.

The City Commission has also approved a referendum for the Nov. 5 ballot asking voters to amend the City Charter to allow the commission to issue debt to respond to emergencies or pay for some safety and public health projects.
