INTERSTATE 16: Altamaha EMC Schedules Additional Utilit[Link]y Work
Altamaha EMC has informed the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) of additional storm-related utility damage that must be repaired on Interstate 16.
Georgia State Patrol is scheduled to pace traffic on I-16 in Treutlen County on Thursday morning, and I-16 in Emanuel County on Friday morning.
On Thursday between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., GSP will begin pacing eastbound traffic at milepost 62, and westbound traffic at milepost 72. The work zone is at milepost 67. In each direction, there will be three GSP cars and one utility truck. Troopers will slow traffic to 20mph. Once traffic is slowed, one GSP car will escort the utility truck to the work site. The two remaining GSP cars will continue pacing traffic at 20mph while the utility company performs its work. During this time, access to I-16 west via Exit 71 will be temporarily closed.
On Friday between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., GSP will begin pacing eastbound traffic at milepost 84, and westbound traffic at milepost 94. The work zone is at milepost 89.5. GSP will repeat the same procedure used on Thursday. During this time, access to I-16 west via Exit 90 will be temporarily closed.
The utility company told Georgia DOT this work should take about 15 minutes each day. Once work is complete, traffic will be released and allowed to resume normal flow. If traffic reaches the work zone before work is complete, GSP will lead traffic through the work zone and allow normal flow to resume after clearing the work zone. Troopers will then return to their original starting location and start a new pace. This process will continue until work is complete.
