Hurricane Milton Updates for Oct. 9 Evening

Monroe County public schools and county offices are to remain closed Thursday as forecasters expect that a tropical storm warning will continue for the Keys for most of Thursday.

State parks are to remain closed Thursday, as is the Port of Key West.

Key West International and Florida Keys Marathon International airports are to remain open. Passengers should continue to check with airlines to ensure flights are operating as scheduled before going to the airport.

Besides the tropical storm warning, a coastal flood warning and tornado watch are in effect for the entire Keys.

Residents and visitors in the Keys should stay safe, be smart and remain indoors and off roads and the water, said Monroe County Emergency Management Director Shannon Weiner.

Jon Rizzo, the Keys warning coordination meteorologist, said weather conditions should slowly improve Thursday morning beginning in Key West and improvements should work their way up the Keys to North Key Largo by late afternoon or early evening Thursday.
