CTX Voices: Dennis 'DJ' Pigford Jr. | Leading on and off the court

Meet Dennis Jr.: Computer Science Student and Student-Athlete at Concordia Texas

In addition to being a full-time student, Dennis holds multiple leadership roles on campus. He served as the Vice President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), is a three-year Men's Basketball Team Captain, and plays an active role in his family's business, Citywide Customs Renovations, as a member of the Executive Board, working alongside his father, Dennis Pigford Sr.

From Engineering to Computer Science: Dennis's Journey

Before attending Concordia Texas, Dennis was on the path to studying Engineering. However, a shift in direction led him to pursue Computer Science Engineering, which he now sees as a "blessing in disguise." Reflecting on this change, Dennis shared, "I didn't realize the variety of job opportunities there were in this industry in Austin and in Dallas."

Networking and Growth within the CTX Computer Science Program

Dennis credits the Computer Science program at CTX for offering him valuable networking opportunities both within the CTX community and externally. Through guest speakers from nearby companies and start-ups, he's been able to build connections that broaden his career prospects. Despite the challenging coursework, Dennis's passion for computers and coding has grown, keeping him motivated through the tough times. As he puts it, "I saw the light at the end of the tunnel," as he mastered in-demand skills that will make him invaluable in the workforce.

A Mentor's Impact: Dr. Bindu George

Dennis offers special gratitude to Dr. Bindu George, the Computer Science Program and Department Chair, for being an incredible mentor throughout his academic journey. Her guidance not only helped him navigate the rigor of the program but also allowed him to see his full potential in this competitive field. According to Dennis, Dr. George's support played a crucial role in his growth as a student and a future leader in the tech industry.
