ICYMI: Senator Baldwin Highlights Impact of $49 Million Investment in Wisconsin’s Tech Hub in Madison

MADISON, WI - Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes toured Accuray in Madison, a leading company in the biohealth sector, to underscore the impact Wisconsin's Tech Hub designation will have on personalized health, Wisconsin's workforce, and the economy. In July, Senator Baldwin announced she helped bring home a $49 million investment for Wisconsin's Tech Hub to grow the state's personalized medicine and biohealth sector - advancing research and innovation, growing our economy and creating jobs, and boosting American competitiveness in a cutting-edge industry. During the visit, Baldwin and Hughes toured the training and manufacturing centers, met with employees, and observed a demonstration of Accuray's CyberKnife® System.

"Wisconsin's Tech Hub designation will not only lead to families getting better, faster health care and bolster our state as a leader in the biohealth sector, it will also create thousands of family-supporting jobs across Wisconsin," said Senator Baldwin. "Whether it is in a high-tech lab, behind a computer, or on the production line, this Tech Hub will create opportunities for Wisconsinites at cutting edge companies like Accuray, pioneering new solutions in personalized medicine right here in Madison that have the potential to change the way we diagnose and treat patients across the globe."

In July, Senator Baldwin announced Wisconsin's consortium of 18 public and private partners had won a $49 million implementation grant through the Department of Commerce's Tech Hub program, created by and funded through the Baldwin-backed CHIPS and Science Act. Over the first 10 years, the Tech Hub designation is projected to create more than 30,000 jobs in the personalized medicine sector and over 111,000 indirect jobs attributable to the Tech Hub in Wisconsin. Additionally, the Tech Hub is projected to create $9 billion worth of economic development in Wisconsin within the first decade.
