A retrofit event which attracted over 100 delegates including traders, partners and key businesses across Shropshire has been hailed a resounding success.

The Retrofitting Shropshire - Meet the Supply Chain event held at Shrewsbury Town Football Club on Thursday 14 November 2024

The Retrofitting Shropshire - Meet the Supply Chain event held at Shrewsbury Town Football Club on 14 November, saw traders across the county coming together to discuss the importance and opportunities of retrofitting in Shropshire.

Organised by Shropshire Council's affordable warmth and energy efficiency team, the event was designed to raise awareness and understanding of current retrofit programmes, standards, and the essential skills required in the field.

The Retrofitting Shropshire - Meet the Supply Chain event saw a remarkable turnout, with participants engaging in a series of insightful presentations and discussions. Attendees had the opportunity to network with top professionals in the field and gain valuable insights into the latest trends and developments in retrofit technology.

Key presenters highlighted the economic opportunities as well as the impact this work can have on the quality of life in local communities.

The event also provided a unique opportunity for small businesses to upskill their employees, support apprenticeship schemes, and foster general economic growth in the local community with funding support.

Councillor Ian Nellins, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, who opened the event said:

"Our Retrofitting Shropshire - Meet the Supply Chain event offered a fantastic opportunity for professionals in the retrofit sector to gain insights, enhance their expertise, network with colleagues, and discover new business prospects.

"The overwhelming success of the Retrofit event signifies a promising future for retrofit initiatives. The enthusiasm and commitment displayed by all participants highlight a growing momentum towards achieving sustainability goals and implementing effective retrofit solutions This forms a key part of our ambition to become a net zero carbon county by 2030, as well as improving the health and wellbeing of our residents."

Government statistics estimate that over 25,000 homes require retrofitting in Shropshire, and with significant funding from government initiatives to meet the UK's carbon-reduction targets, local businesses in the construction sector were encouraged to get involved. Over £1 million has already been spent with local suppliers.
