At Tampa Electric, Alexander Keyhani doesn't just deal with power - he empowers young minds to harness their potential through volunteerism. As TECO's Electric Vehicles Program Manager, Alex channels his passion for STEM education by serving as a project design mentor and judge in the Gentlemen's Quest's STEM Quest Program.

STEM Quest is a dynamic platform where high schoolers delve into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The program provides a creative space that teaches valuable skills for future STEM careers in a fun and engaging setting.

Alex plays a pivotal role in guiding students through the intricacies of product design, from initial concept to market-ready prototype. "Guiding these talented young minds through product design and launch - from initial research, marketing development, financial calculations and model design to engineering and final product demonstration - has been truly rewarding," Alex reflects, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning in shaping future STEM leaders.

One standout moment for Alex was witnessing a student team overcome technical challenges to build a solar-powered cargo vessel. Despite setbacks with their electrical system being exposed to water, and with just two days to rewire and insulate it, their perseverance paid off with a first-place finish. "Their success was a testament to teamwork and resilience," Alex shares, noting how such experiences instill invaluable life skills in the participants. "Seeing the joy and sense of accomplishment from that team, especially from a student who I hadn't seen smile before, was an amazing experience."

Beyond technical guidance, Alex believes in the power of mentorship to inspire the next generation. "STEM programs ignite curiosity and passion," he explains, highlighting their role in preparing students for careers in high-demand fields. His interactions with students often spark interest in internships or future careers at Tampa Electric.

"What motivates me is the impact we can make on others," Alex said, underscoring his belief in giving back to the community. His involvement with Gentlemen's Quest exemplifies Tampa Electric's commitment to empowering youth and fostering innovation through community service.
