Shot Spotter Activation in Dorchester Leads to Recovery of Two Firearms and One Suspect’s Arrest

At about 8:57 PM, on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, Officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested Joshua Martins, 26, of Boston, for firearm related offenses during a subject stop while investigating a Shot Spotter activation on Mount Ida Rd. and Shots Fired 911 call at 68 Draper St.

Following the Shot Spotter activation on Mount Ida Rd., Officers patrolled the surrounding area for potential victims, witnesses, and suspects when they were provided a description of the suspects from radio operations that were running on Draper St. towards Longfellow St. As Officers continued their patrol, their attention was drawn to four males walking on Percival St. towards Fox St. that matched the descriptions provided. Officers exited their vehicle and approached to investigate.

As Officers approached the group, the suspect, later identified as Joshua Martins, took off running on Percival St. towards Fox St. Officers were able to stop Martins and place him in custody at the intersection of Juliette St. and Fox St.

While Martins was in handcuffs, he started reaching towards his waistband continuously and Officers had to physically stop him from doing so. Officers began an investigation and recovered a firearm located inside Martins pants.

As Officers were conducting their investigation of Martins, several other Officers responded to the area of 68 Draper St. and Mount Ida Rd. to investigate. During their investigation, Boston Police Canine Jax and his handling Officer located a firearm in an alley located on Ridgewood St.

District C-11 Detectives responded and determined that the firearm recovered from Martins was a Glock 19X 9×19. There was one (1) live round loaded in the chamber and twenty-one (21) rounds of ammunition inside its 24-round magazine. Detectives also determined the firearm located on Ridgewood St. was a black and silver semi-automatic "ghost gun" without a serial number, containing a black ten (10) round magazine, loaded with eight (8) rounds of 9mm ammunition. The firearm was also equipped with a light/laser attachment.

Joshua Martins was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm.
