COHERENCE: Significant progress for the Interregional Italy-Slovenia project

The team from the Interreg Project, headed by Serena Zacchigna, ICGEB Trieste, reports on the productive meeting with the Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices of the Republic of Slovenia.

The Interreg project "COHERENCE" team members reported significant progress following an important and productive meeting with the Slovenian JAZMP (Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices of the Republic of Slovenia). "The meeting marks a pivotal step forward in our efforts to enhance cross-border healthcare initiatives between Italy and Slovenia," affirms Serena Zacchigna, Project Lead, adding "Today's meeting has been a milestone in clarifying the regulatory framework that will bring us closer to patients for improved care."

The COHERENCE project focuses on developing a cell therapy for the treatment of non-healing wounds to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from chronic wounds that resist conventional treatments. Progress thus far includes:

  • Regulatory advancement (with the discussion with JAZMP paving the way for smoother regulatory processes in upcoming clinical trials), and
  • Advancing therapy (with promising pre-clinical data, the project is moving from the laboratory towards clinical studies).

Future Steps will involve preparing the Common Admissions Test (CAT) application; continuing close collaboration with all stakeholders, and advancing towards innovative healthcare solutions.

The results were considered an invaluable contribution by all team members in the effort to ensure

a meaningful impact on healthcare in the region.
