Marking a Mountaineer milestone, WVU Commencement set for this week

WHAT: West Virginia University graduates will celebrate their accomplishments by walking across the stage during two December Commencement ceremonies.

WHERE: WVU Coliseum, Morgantown

WHO:August and December University graduates, President Gordon Gee, Chancellor and Executive Dean for Health Sciences Dr. Clay Marsh, Vice Provost Mark Gavin, and Presidential Honorary Degree recipientsHoppy Kercheval, David Riggle and Nitin "Nick" Kumbhani.

WHEN:Saturday, Dec. 21, 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

9 a.m.

College of Applied Human Sciences
College of Creative Arts and Media
College of Law
Eberly College of Arts and Sciences

Presidential Honorary Degrees for Kercheval, a longtime broadcaster in West Virginia and two-time University graduate, and Riggle, a special education teacher in Tyler County, will be conferred during the 9 a.m. ceremony.

2 p.m.

Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources
John Chambers College of Business and Economics
School of Dentistry
School of Medicine
School of Nursing
School of Pharmacy
School of Public Health

A Presidential Honorary Degree for Kumbhani, a University alumnus and leading executive in software development and investment management, will be conferred during the 2 p.m. ceremony.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Tickets are not required to attend the ceremonies. The Clear Bag Policy will be in effect and weapons detection devices will be in use to ensure compliance with an exemption allowed under the West Virginia Campus Self-Defense Act.

Parking is free at the Coliseum. Overflow parking is available at the Canady Creative Arts Center.

Media members are required to check in with Shauna Johnson, director of news communications, at the Coliseum's Country Roads gate for event access.
