PennDOT/BPC Announce Road Closure, Detour for Interstate 81 Susquehanna Bridge Project in Susquehanna County

Dunmore, PA - ThePennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) today announced an extended duration road closure part of the I-81 Susquehanna Bridge Project.

The detour is anticipated to begin on or after August 8, 2024, and continue through fall 2026. Susquehanna Street will be closed directly under I-81 and motorists are advised to utilize the detour route:

  • ​Route 11 (Main Street);
  • Route 492 (Jackson Street);
  • Route 1012 (East Lake Road);
  • Foote Road;
  • Camp Road; and
  • Susquehanna Street.

As the project continues, ongoing coordination and updates with local Emergency Management Services will occur. Information on the detour and other project details were included in the June 2023 and September 2023 I-81 Susquehanna Bridge Project Public Meetings.

This project is part of the ongoing PennDOT Major Bridges P3 Program. Bridging Pennsylvania Developers - I (BPD-I), led jointly by Shikun & Binui Ltd and Macquarie Capital as Lead Project Developers and Equity Members. The Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) joint venture consortium includes the design & construction expertise of S&B USA Construction (Pittsburgh, PA) and FCC Construction. S&B USA Construction is the construction arm of Shikun & Binui Ltd and is also the parent company of Fay, S&B USA Construction (Pittsburgh, PA), one of the four BPC Major Bridge subcontractors. Other Major Bridge subcontractors include the H&K Group (Skippack, PA), Kokosing Construction Company (Pittsburgh, PA), Wagman Heavy Civil (York, PA), and Lead Designer, Michael Baker International (Pittsburgh, PA).
