A veteran higher education professional with extensive experience in international educational exchanges and collaborations will share his insights and reflections during Saginaw Valley State University's celebration of International Education Week.
On Monday, Nov. 11, Robert S.P. Yien, vice president emeritus of academic affairs at SVSU, will present a keynote address as part of the SVSU in East Asia - Highlights in International Partnerships program presented by SVSU's Office of International Programs. Yien's address will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A featuring three SVSU faculty members: Andrea Frederick, professor of nursing; Phillip Hanson, lecturer of art; and Debra Lively, professor teacher education. All three have served as visiting scholars and instructors in East Asia. The event will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Emeriti Room in SVSU's Curtiss Hall. It is free and open to the public.
Yien is the president of Ming Chuan University - Michigan and executive vice president of Ming Chuan University. Prior to his work with Ming Chuan, he served SVSU for more than 37 years, joining the university as a faculty member in 1970, succeeding through various administrative positions, including vice president for academic affairs, before serving as SVSU provost for 27 years. At SVSU, Yien played a leading role in the growth and development of the university and contributed significantly to nurturing international partnerships, particularly in China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
