Mayor G.T. Bynum Named Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine

10/2/2024

Mayor G.T. Bynum has been recognized as Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine, a recognition given to community leaders across the country for strong leadership, courage, innovation, creativity, and good management.
The recognition from Governing Magazine's Public Official of the Year is due to significant achievements during Mayor Bynum's term, including attracting some of the largest employers to Tulsa, passing the largest bond for street infrastructure improvements, improving Zink Dam and Zink Lake recreation, leading investigations into the Tulsa Race Massacre, and more.
Before his time as mayor, Bynum served an eight-year term on the Tulsa City Council before his election as Tulsa's 40th mayor in December of 2016. Currently in his second (and last) term in office, other achievements from his time as mayor include championing more than $1 billion in investment in North Tulsa, continuing the revitalization of Downtown Tulsa, leading Tulsa through the COVID-19 pandemic and other natural disasters, being a strong advocate for Route 66 and tourism, championing hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars in federal infrastructure investment into Tulsa, and more.
Bynum proclaimed that his proudest achievement is demonstrating that "people from different political parties and different partisan beliefs can work together on the greatest challenges that face their community and find solutions together."
