Akropolis to Give Concert at Faulkner Performing Arts Center

The award-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet will give a concert in the Faulkner Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28. The event is open to the public, and free tickets can be picked up at the door before the concert. The quintet will also present a short performance and chat from 3-4 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the Billingsley Music Building.

As the first reed quintet to twice grace the Billboard Charts (2021, 2022), the untamed band (oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and bass clarinet) is united by a shared passion: to make music that sparks joy and wonder.

Winner of seven national chamber music prizes including the 2014 Fischoff Gold Medal, Akropolis delivers 120 concerts and educational events each year and has premiered over 130 works. In November 2023, Akropolis became the first reed quintet to grace the luminary University Musical Society stage (Ann Arbor, Michigan), and the group has appeared on many concert series, including the Oneppo Chamber Music Series (Yale University), Chamber Music San Antonio, the Phillips Collection (Washington, D.C.) and Summerwinds Münster (Germany).

Originating at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the Akropolis Reed Quintet remains its founding members: Tim Gocklin (oboe), Kari Landry (clarinet), Matt Landry (saxophone), Andrew Koeppe (bass clarinet) and Ryan Reynolds (bassoon).

The concert and student performance are part of the U of A Department of Music's Bridging Differences series, supported by the McIlroy Family Endowment in the Visual and Performing Arts.
