Council reaffirmed its commitment to a community without barriers recently by unanimously endorsing its Access and Inclusion Plan 2024 - 2029.

Spanning five years the Plan outlines the ways in which the City will endeavour to ensure that everyone has equal access to City facilities, services, programs and events.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune acknowledged the important role local governments play in access and inclusion within the community.

"Committing to continually improving access to information, providing high quality services, facilities, programs and events for people with disability remains a top priority for us," he said.

"Over the past five years the City has improved existing infrastructure, built new facilities and introduced new initiatives which make our City more inclusive and welcoming.

"Key achievements in this space include the Passport to Employment Program for year 11 and 12 students with disability, the construction of an 18-metre access ramp at the Aquarena, introduction of communication boards at playgrounds for those who identify as nonverbal and providing a space for Dance Days Disco for people with disability to socialise."

Over the next five years the new Plan will guide capital works and City planning to meet the needs and aspirations of people with disability.

The official launch of the Access and Inclusion Plan 2024-2029 will take at the Geraldton Disability Expo between 9-11am on Thursday 18 July in the Lower Hall of the Queen Elizabeth II Seniors and Community Centre.

This free event will feature fun activities, morning tea and engaging presentations from keynote speakers.

The City would like to thank valued stakeholders ATLAS, Central Regional Tafe, Desert Blue Connect, GALAH, Headspace, Helping Solutions, MY Way, Midwest Support Coordination, Regional Alliance West ,Rocky Bay, Ruah Community Services for their support of the Geraldton Disability Expo.
