A Roadmap for Energy Access in Displacement Settings: Lebanon

Alongside the Roadmaps for Energy Access in Displacement Settings (READS) Programme, implemented by the Global Platform for Action (GPA) Coordination Unit at the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and funded by the IKEA Foundation, Anera has recently published a report on developing sustainable energy initiatives in Lebanon.

The programme focuses on all communities which are affected by forced displacement, spanning host communities, refugees, and other groups, including camps/settlements and urban settings according to specific contexts.

This report aims to identify ways to increase sustainable energy resources in Lebanon in response to its high population of displaced people. The report develops a "roadmap report" to summarize the energy and displacement situation, identify gaps that are not currently being met, and propose projects to increase sustainable energy access in displacement settings.

Anera's work in Lebanon extends back to 1968. Our humanitarian and development projects in Lebanon intertwine to build livelihoods, foster civic engagement, and create long-term change. Education projects train young people in skills they can put to work right away to help their communities. They earn money, help their neighbors and gain professional experience all all at once. Our medical aid program delivers vital medicines across the country, while community workers run health awareness sessions. Our food security projects not only deliver aid in the form of vouchers and food parcels, they also build greenhouses and train families in farming best practices.
