2024 TAB Show Closes with Biggest Night in Texas Broadcasting

Hundreds of Texas broadcasters celebrated loudly and proudly upon the close of the 2024 TAB Show as they honored station teams and individual players alike for their service to communities, pioneering leadership and broadcast excellence as the sun set over Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Round Rock.

The celebration capped off the largest state or regional broadcast gathering in the country which featured a 125-booth trade show and two-day schedule of workshops, classes and sessions focused on the technologies and strategies that are driving revenue, drawing talent and reaching new audiences.

Delegates expressed high enthusiasm for the experience from start to finish, joined by Texas Radio consultant Andy Meadows who also gave the show high marks.

Public Service, Leadership Awards

Entertainment Tonight Co-Host Nischelle Turner joyfully emceed the Awards Gala where John Barger received the Lifetime Achievement Award and TelevisaUnivision's Mark Masepohl was named Pioneer of the Year.

Broadcaster of the Year went to Coreena Hazelett with Kerrville's Ranch Radio and KAMR-TV's Dan Morgan, while the Jason Hightower Award for Broadcast Excellence went to KXAN-TV's Josh Hinkle and KFDX-TV's Britt Milstead.

Scripps' Phil Brooks with KRIS-TV Corpus Christi garnered the George Marti Award for Engineering Excellence, while RCS' Jim Colley was named Associate of the Year and Sherry Williford was honored as Educator of the Year after a long career leading the R-TV program at Stephen F. Austin University.

JAM Broadcasting of Kerrville and Wichita Falls' KFDX-TV received the inaugural Radio and TV Station of the Year awards.

The Bonner McLane Public Service Award was presented to five stations according to market size, including KTXS-TV Abilene, KVIA-TV El Paso, KABW/KORQ Abilene, KURV/Radio United Rio Grande Valley, KCYY/Cox Media Group San Antonio.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 TAB Show is set for Aug. 6-7 at Kalahari and planning already is underway as the TAB Convention Planning Committee assesses participant surveys from this year's event.

Vendors interested in participating should contact TAB's Sydney Herrmann, while stations are encouraged to review the awards presented this year and begin making plans for nominations.
