Modern Amazons grace Dior Spring-Summer 2025 show

For the DiorSpring-Summer 2025 collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri continues to explore the meaning of the garment, the relationship between the body and what dresses it, and the power of femininity.

Presented at the Musée Rodin in Paris, the silhouettes were joined on the catwalk by athlete and artist SAGG Napoli for an archery-themed performance piece.

The Amazone dress conceived by Christian Dior for autumn-winter 1951-1952 caught the attention of the Creative Director for women's collections in archives. Reinterpreting the cuts of the original creation inspired by the mythological female figure, Maria Grazia Chiuri sent out bold and edgy silhouettes. A predominance of black and white alongside checks and horizontal or vertical lines created a hypnotic effect, and the Miss Dior logo is elongated to the extreme. The bright red accents of leather bomber jackets serve as a counterpoint to the interplay of dualities.

Off-the-shoulder asymmetric cuts highlighted the shoulder-slung bags of the modern-day Amazons. Silhouettes adopted sporty codes as sandals morphed into shin guard sneakers. Bodysuits are unadorned or elevated with shimmering fringe, celebrating the feminine body, while jersey accompanies lightweight evening dresses. Belts, straps and draping highlight the waist without ever constraining. Artist SAGG Napoli's emblematic phrase resonated with the collection on the runway: "May the building of a strong mind and a strong body be the greatest work I have ever made." The artist-athlete's archery performance underscored the harmony between body and mind, an affirmation of powerful contemporary femininity that exalts assertive courage and style.
