Mayor Mantello Announces Launch of ‘Pitch-In’ Initiative

TROY, NY (August 23) -Mayor Mantello is proud to announce the launch of the 'Pitch-In' initiative, a transformative city-wide program designed to bring together residents, businesses, and organizations in a unified effort to maintain and enhance the beauty of Troy.

As part of Mayor Mantello's Quality of Life Action Task Force, the 'Pitch-In' initiative invites participants to 'adopt' a road, alleyway, waterfront, or similar area, and commit to regular cleanup activities that will help revitalize and sustain the community's charm, all while building civic pride. By taking responsibility for specific areas of the city, participants will play a crucial role in keeping Troy clean and welcoming for everyone.

"Our city thrives when we all come together to care for it," said Mayor Mantello. "The 'Pitch-In' initiative empowers every individual, business, and organization to make a meaningful difference in the appearance and health of our community. Together, we can ensure that Troy remains a place we are all proud to call home."

"The 'pitch-in' initiative is a great way for everyone Troy to engage in civic pride," said Sam Chiappone, a local leader in Little Italy. "It shows we are proud of our city and want to be continuous partners in a cleaner, safer, and welcoming city and neighborhoods."

"The last several months, the city crews have been doing an amazing job cleaning up the streets and the sidewalks," said business owner and local leader Tony Buchanan. "Having a clean and maintained neighborhood will create a domino effect to so many other things. It deters crime, it welcomes new business and encourages customers to come to existing businesses. It encourages people to want to come to our city to live. Troy is such a beautiful and historical city, and it often gets over shadowed by the random violence and crime that has occurred in the past. Cleaning our streets is a huge step in the right direction and it takes the city, the residents, and the business owners to all work together to do our parts to make Troy a welcoming city!"

Those who join the 'Pitch-In' initiative will receive recognition from the Mayor's Office throughout the year, including special acknowledgments and invitations to exclusive city events. This initiative is not only an opportunity to improve the physical environment but also a chance to strengthen community bonds and encourage a culture of shared responsibility.

How to Get Involved:

To participate in the 'Pitch-In' initiative, individuals and organizations are encouraged to select an area of the city they wish to adopt and commit to regular cleanups. Participants will be provided with essential cleanup supplies, such as garbage bags and trash pickers, at no cost.

Please note: If you or your organization is interested in participating in the 'Pitch-In' Initiative, you must register with the City of Troy to avoid fines and fees for extra trash bags.
