Various Rural Routes in Barton, Jasper & Lawrence Counties Scheduled for Resurfacing

Barton, Jasper & Lawrence Counties - Drivers can expect lane closures and occasional traffic delays on various routes in Barton, Jasper and Lawrence counties for a resurfacing project beginning the week of August 5, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This project is part of Gov. Parson's Rural Routes program. The state's approved Fiscal Year 2023 budget provided an additional $100 million in General Revenue for work on Missouri's low volume rural roads. Using asset management data, MoDOT has identified approximately 1,700 lane miles of low volume roads ranked in Poor Condition. By the end of the program, these 113 locations will receive resurfacing treatments of hot mix asphalt to improve the road conditions.

This is the work being done on this project:

  • Barton County - I-49 Outer Road from U.S. Route 160 in Lamar north to Route EE
  • Jasper County - Route K in Jasper from I-49 east to Missouri Route 37
  • Lawrence County - Route U from Missouri Route 96 south to Route F in La Russell
  • Lawrence County - Route U from Route F in La Russell west to I-44
  • Barton & Jasper County - Route T from Missouri Route 126 west of Golden City south to Jasper County Route N east of Carytown

Contractor crews will add an overlay of new asphalt and permanent striping to the above routes.

Traffic impacts:

  • Traffic reduced to one lane where contractor crews are laying asphalt
  • Drivers will encounter flaggers and pilot cars where crews are working. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road.
  • Work will be done during daytime hours; all lanes open to traffic at night
  • No signed detour
  • Drivers should find alternate routes
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zones
  • Check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Drivers are urged to use caution as they may experience a rough ride in areas until the resurfacing project is complete.

Weather and/or scheduling delays could alter the work schedule.

Project information:

  • Prime contractor: Blevins Asphalt Construction Co., Mt. Vernon
  • Total project cost: $2.7 million
  • Completion date: November 1, 2024
