City's Flannery Banks Earns Staff of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association

The American Public Works Association (APWA) of Northern California has awarded Santa Rosa Storm Water & Creeks Assistant Engineer Flannery Banks Staff of the Year - Water Resources. The annual APWA awards are granted based on career service to the profession, and the title of Staff of the Year is awarded to those who exemplify best practices in public works and inspire excellence, leadership, and dedication.

Banks has been part of the City of Santa Rosa staff for more than four years. In her tenure, she has contributed to the safety and functioning of the Santa Rosa community. "In her 4+years at the City, Flannery has consistently shown herself to be innovative, collaborative, passionate, and a leader in all that she does," Claire Myers, Sustainability Representative, said. "We couldn't be happier that she has been recognized for her excellence!"

Flannery studied Civil Engineering at Chico State, and her professional career prior to joining the City included engineering in private land development and work at a firm focused on Storm Water Engineering. Her duties at the City have ranged from storm drain asset management to long- and short-range storm drain planning, private and public development storm drain design reviews, regional support for questions on Low-Impact Design, management of repair needs of the storm drain infrastructure, and support for emergency management efforts.

"None of us can achieve this success alone," Flannery wrote of the award. "Many of us are driven by a sense of duty, community, and a desire to serve, with much of our work happening behind the scenes. Being recognized by our professional peers makes this award even more meaningful."

The City of Santa Rosa offers a warm congratulations to Flannery for this well-deserved acknowledgement of her hard work for our community.
