Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata is welcoming the new Chairman of the influential Congressional Western Caucus, Rep. Douglas LaMalfa, elevated by the membership following his service as a Vice Chairman. Chairman LaMalfa is a fourth-generation rice farmer and business owner in northern California.
"Chairman LaMalfa is a good friend and a great choice by the Western Caucus to continue leading on these important issues in the 119th Congress, and I already serve with him on the Natural Resources Committee," said Congresswoman Aumua Amata. "In fact, this Congress, we served on the same two subcommittees, Indian and Insular Affairs, and Water, Wildlife and Fisheries. He's an expert on the issues of the Western Caucus in the work of his three Committees as well as in the priorities of the district he represents, where many of these issues directly apply to his constituents."
"As one of the largest issue-based caucuses in Congress with more than 100 Members, the Members of the Western Caucus includes leadership and involvement in major legislation across the board," said Congresswoman Aumua Amata. "I'm pleased to take part as a Vice Chairman, since these issues often dovetail with the work of the House Natural Resources Committee."
Chairman LaMalfa has served in Congress since 2012, and represents a large district in northern California, with a natural emphasis on agriculture, forestry, and water and infrastructure issues. He holds a degree in Agriculture and Business.
